Practicing the Guitar Efficiently
How to get the most from practicing the guitar
This article discusses how to practice the guitar efficiently and reach your goals for guitar playing.
What’s the correct or most efficient way to practice the guitar?
The goal in practicing anything is to be effective and productive, but is there an ultimate way to accomplish this? There are many principles involved in an effective practice session. First, one must have the motivation to practice and a desire to be successful, to be able to be productive in their practicing. Some feel this motivation through a love and passion for the music they can produce on the guitar, others find their motivation elsewhere. Second, you need to have a plan. Start with Reading practice, while getting your fingers warmed up. Then set aside 30 minutes for nothing but technique practice. A plan is key in accomplishing any goal!
What to do until you find the most effective way to practice?
Many people who play the guitar at times struggle with how and in what ways to practice? The best advice in this situation is persevering until the best way to practice has been discovered. Maybe you feel the way you practice isn’t efficient, practice anyway! By this method you will only improve yourself and maybe along the way you will find the best practicing method for you!
Decide your destination
There are many things one must consider when planning on practicing the guitar; the time it takes, motivation level, and the level of concentration it takes. As real growth often is a slow process, effectiveness of a practice session will not very often be able to be measured by how much was learned. You need to find other ways to measure effectiveness and progress, but first you must decide your destination, where you want to be!
Can you practice too much or too effectively?
Depending on how one defines the term effective practice sessions. If effective guitar practice is to work through a long list of things to improve playing, and to practice ten hours per day without interruption, that may be too effective! That kind of practicing could lead to being fed up with the guitar and may even cause muscle ache and cause an aversion towards guitar playing for the rest of your life.
