Barre Chords
Barre chords or Bar chords are formed by laying a finger across the fret board making a 90 degree angle to the neck and pressing down on the strings. Playing like this allows the guitarist more freedom in forming chords. Chords can be moved up the fret board by simply sliding one fret higher with the same chord grouping. So if you play an E chord at the first fret you could move that up to be an F chord by barring across the first fret and still making the same pattern as an E chord with you finger. Move one fret higher and strum and you'll be playing F #. Move one more fret and you'll reach a G. The pattern continues all the way up the fret board. Just watch out for those sneaky half-steps that occur between B and C and E and F.
Learning to play barre chords is essential to becoming a great guitar player. It takes a lot of time, effort and practice to learn barre chords.
Here's How:
1. The one finger that is used the most is your index finger while playing guitar.
2. One thing that you want to watch out for is a straight or rigid finger; you want your index finger bent slightly.
3. You want to make sure that your finger makes contact with the strings by rolling it back.
4. Make sure you apply pressure on the strings and listen to each one individually and see if it sounds right.
5. Now it is time to add the rest of your fingers, but one at a time. you need to start with your ring finger.
6. Using a pick is one way to help you hear if your strings are sounding clear. If there are some that are not as clear as others try to get them as close to a clear tune as possible.
7. After you have tried to play a few major chords, resume by playing common barre chords.
8. Now begin adding your second finger into your chords, re-adjusting if needed.
9. By learning some simple barre chords you will be able to play many other songs that you love to listen to.
Tips:
1. When you pull the main body of your guitar towards you it makes it easier to play the barre chords.
2. Many times the chords do not sound perfect the first time, but that is fine, with time the sound will be incredible.
